Get Active This Summer With A Luxury Trip To Antigua
Antigua, the larger of the two islands that make up Antigua and Barbuda, is a stunning vacation place owing to its ethnicity and natural loveliness. The island not only has splendid scenery, but also has white sandy seashores and ample of prospects for people to completely enjoy themselves.
The only city on the island is Saint John’s, which is the capital of Antigua and Barbuda. You can head on over here to take in the local traditions, enjoy the food and drinks and have a fun time. The old English Harbour is a good rubber-necking place for people, and this is where Nelson’s Dockyard is sited. Nelson’s Dockyard is a historic English dockyard from Colonial times.
One more destination to go to is Falmouth which was the original place where the British settlement on the island was placed during colonial times. The island was given sovereignty from the United Kingdom in 1981 and since then has built up its standing as a marvellous place just like the neighbouring islands of St. Barts, Barbados and Jamaica.
To reach to Antigua, you can take one of the several regular flights from the United Kingdom to the VC Bird International Airport on the island. Airlines including the British Airways, BMI, Virgin Atlantic and XL all run many flights to the island. It is also probable to benefit from the island by getting there on a tour ship. Most people make use of this choice seeing not just Antigua, but the adjacent islands too.
Once you land on a single island, you can easily hire a car to take you around. You can also contact your hotel and ask them to arrange one for you. A Taxi is easily available, and is also a cheap option if you don’t want a car for the entire day.
There are several things you can do here. The first one is cricket is especially admired on the island and you can go to the Recreation Ground in St. Johns, or any coastline, and involve yourself in this fantastic game.
From late July to early August, the Recreation Ground in Antigua is employed for the island’s major fiesta Carnival. If you are planning your journey for that time, make certain you participate in the events.
Of course, you are on an island; you should definitely take in the sun and sand. Scuba diving is very popular, with the eastern coastline boasting many reefs where you can take in the marine life. You can also go on sail boats, rowboats or cruisers, which can be hired from a number of locations around the island.
You can also go to the Shirley Heights Lookout, which is an old British fort and Signal Station sited near Falmouth. On Sunday evenings it plays local music and you can arrive early to catch the sunset and stay to take part in the barbeque and music played by local bands.
